FAQ

What is the difference between fused and infused?

Fused is when the olives are crushed, the fruits, and or vegetables are crushed with the olives. Infused means the natural flavors are added after crushing.

 

How long is the shelf life of Olive oil?

If stored properly (out of direct sun, heat, and in dark bottles), our oils will hold for 9-12 months. Of course, since they are fresh crush, they are best consumed closest to crush date. Do not store in the refrigerator, as this can cause condensation. Condensation can turn the oil rancid.

 

How long is the shelf life of balsamic vinegar?

Balsamic is aged; therefore, it will last a very long time if stored properly. No worries, you will not have it around long enough to worry!

 

Do you refill bottles?

Yes, we will refill your bottles and offer a 10% discount. Bottles must be clean and completely dry to have re-filled.

 

Are your oils and balsamic vinegars gluten free?

Yes!

 

Are your oils cold pressed?

Yes, our oils are first cold pressed. This is a chemical- free process using only pressure, which produces a higher quality of oil, which usually is lower in acidity.

 

Where do your olive oils come from?

All over the world and California. Our oils come from countries such as Chili, Greece, Italy, Tunisia, Australia, South Africa just to name a few.  Our infused oils are imported and infused in California. Every 6 months we receive the freshest crush from the opposite hemisphere, ensuring the freshest oils not once, but twice a year!

 

Where do your balsamic vinegars come from?

Modena, Italy.

 

What does “Ultra-Premium (UP)” stand for?

This gold standard of grading was developed by Veronica foods, Carmine and Lucia’s exclusive supplier for all olive oils and Vinegars, to identify the finest and freshest Extra Virgin Olive Oils (EVOO) in the world.  It all comes down to the chemistry of the oil at time of crush. The misleading labels found in store olive oil that read, “Best by date” are just that, misleading to the consumer and meant to accommodate the retailer and bottler.  The UP  grading system exceeds  all other existing standards for the grade specific to “ extra virgin” You will find the chemistry of all our UP Extra Virgin oils listed in the store.

 

What does “Extra Virgin Olive Oil” or EVOO mean? 

An oil is considered extra virgin when it has been crushed or “pressed” with nothing additional.  Simply, a pressed olive that must meet certain laboratory tests including, acidity, and peroxide.

 

Can you cook with Olive Oil?

Of course!  You can sauté’, fry and grill with extra virgin oil.  The fresher the oil, the higher the smoke point can go.

 

Can oil be a substitute for butter in recipes?

Yes!  The ratio is; 1 teaspoon of butter =3/4 teaspoon of olive oil.  Our butter flavored infused oil is a perfect addition for this!

 

Which country has “the best” olive oil?

This is a question asked very frequently.  The best olive oil comes from, the United States, Greece, Spain, Italy, Chili, Portugal, Lebanon, Tunisia, Australia, South Africa, etc.  You get the point. The country of origin is not important, unless it is to you personally.  The taste of the individual olive and its production are the key and critical factors.

 

What are the health benefits of Olive Oil?

EVOO is loaded with antioxidants and “healthy fats”.  Studies have indicated that, it appears that the “type” of fat counts more than amount. Olive oil consists of monounsaturated fats, aka, the “healthy fat”.  There are numerous ways in which olive oil has been suggested beneficial to your health including, reducing the risk of Type 2 diabetes, improving arterial function in some individuals, reducing blood pressure and stroke, and also depression.  Those who come from the Mediterranean regions of the world are some of the oldest and healthiest individuals, and will attribute much of this to the benefits of quality olive oil!
